  • Lane Tynes played for the Columbus Tigers from 1920-1926

  • Grady Watson played for the Maroons from 1922-1924 and then the Hammond Pros in 1924, and the Buffalo Bison in 1927.

  • Louis Smythe started with the Canton Bulldogs in 1920, the Rochester Jeffersons in 1924, the Yellow Jackets in 1925, the Steam Rollers, and the Hartford Blues in 1926

  • Dexter Shelley played for the Steam Rollers and Spartans in 1931, followed by the Chicago Cardinals and Greenbay Packers.

  • Les Peterson played for Portsmouth in 1932 and then the Green Bay Packers.

  • “Ox” Emerson played for Portsmouth Spartans in 1931 and the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1938.

  • Alfred Rose played for the Yankees in 1936, but in the 1930’s, he played for the Providence Steam Rollers. The Steam Rollers were the last team that is no longer in the NFL that won the league championship

  • 1938- Hugh Wolfe was the first Longhorn recruited into the NFL.

  • Longhorns William Collins in 1947 played for the Boston Yanks

  • Jack Sachse in 1945 also played for the Boston Yanks

  • William Conoly in 1946, Malcolm Kutner in 1946, Stanley Mauldin in 1946, Joe Parker in 1946, and George Petrovich in 1949 all played for the Chicago Cardinals

  • Tom Landry played for the Giants in 1947

  • Bobby Layne went to the Bears in 1948

  • Noble Doss played for the New York Yankees in 1949

  • Pete Layden played for the Yankees in 1948, as did Joseph Magliolo and Orban Sanders in 1948 and beyond.

  • Jack Freeman played for the Dodgers of the AAFC in 1946 with Longhorns Lewis Mayne and Harla Wetz in 1947.

  • Buddy Jungmichel played for the Miami Seahawks in 1946

  • Bobby Layne played for the New York Bulldogs in 1949, the Chicago Bears, Lions, and Steelers.

  • Kenneth Jackson and Jim Lansford played for the Dallas Texans in 1951

  • Bobby Bryant played for the Texans in 1960, as did Ed Kelley in 1961, and Carl Larpenter and James Saton in 1962.

  • Rosy Leaks played for the Baltimore Colts in 1975

  • 1984 17 UT players were drafted
