Construction and controversy 

Even though  there were cutbacks in expenses in 1975 for the college of Humanities and Longhorn sports attendance was trending down, 37 million dollars was allocated to build a new basketball arena, a new swimming complex, and a new baseball stadium.   This allocation of so much money to sports upset many any Academia.    There was even controversy within the Athletic department when  budget restraints resulted in some coaches losing their jobs and the number of scholarships in some sports reduced.
